JULIAN GOUGH, the author of Juno and Juliet, Jude: Level 1, and Jude In London, will next week launch his new novel, Connect, in Charlie Byrne's Bookshop, Middle Street.

Three new book launches, panel discussions, creative workshops, poetry and fiction will be central to a jam packed Wild Atlantic Words Literary festival which runs from this Wednesday, October 4 to Sunday, October 8 in Castlebar.  And the programme has something for every taste — children's events, young people's writing, history debates, sporting memoirs, culinary arts, hometown reminiscences.

They have published three of the most talked about, and critically acclaimed, Irish novels of recent years - including the award winning Solar Bones by Mayo born, Galway based author Mike McCormack - but for Tramp Press’s Sarah Davis-Goff and Lisa Coen, there is still a lot to be done, and many attitudes still to be changed.

NEXT THURSDAY, March 9 at 6pm, the Galway City Library will host the launch of what is sure to be one of the best Irish novels of this year - Ithaca by Galway writer Alan McMonagle, and published by Picador.

Solar Bones, a novel written in a single 223-page sentence by Mayo author Mike McCormack has been voted the Bord Gáis Energy Book of the Year for 2016. Described as “a hymn to modern small-town life”, the experimental novel received unanimously positive reviews around the time of its publication.

The 40th Westport Arts Festival kicks off next Wednesday, September 30, and this year’s festival features an eclectic mix of events for all ages across all art forms. Dr Eimear O’Connor, art historian and author and curator, will give a presentation on Seán Keating and the Art of the Rebellion. The winners of the festival’s Poetry Competition will be announced at a special prize-giving evening of poetry and music in The Creel, featuring writer and singer-songwriter, Orlagh de Bhaldraithe.
